Thank you, thank you, thank you!
What a fortnight! The Champions for Children appeal has come to a close and together we have raised £10,000 in 14 days!
We'd like to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone who gave during the two weeks and also to our wonderful pledgers and the amazing Childhood Trust who provided the funding which doubled all the donations made during the appeal.
The money we raised together will help us improve the wellbeing and relational and sexual health outcomes of 2,646 young people in Southwark through our Esteem programme during the 2021/2022 academic year.
Over 2000 students in Years 7–13 in 8 Southwark schools will receive multiple sessions of high quality relationships & sex education. We will work with students of all abilities, including students with special educational needs and students for whom English is a second language, adapting our delivery accordingly and using a range of teaching styles to meet all learning preferences.
The money raised will also enable us to deliver our Girls’ & Boys’ Projects to small groups of vulnerable students identified as being at risk of exploitation or damaging behaviour towards others. This work is vital as some Southwark youth have fallen prey to gangs who’ve been grooming recruits in new ways during the pandemic.
We will also run focus groups with young people to hear how the pandemic has impacted them so that we can adapt our Esteem programme to meet their needs: empowering those who are struggling to rebuild their self-esteem and to realise their value and potential in a post-lockdown society.
The £10,000 raised will also enable us to co-produce a new resource with black, Asian and other students from minority ethnic backgrounds to support youth in recognising, challenging and eradicating racism.
Thank you!
