We were recently invited to speak to a group of youth practitioners from the Anglican Diocese of Southwark as part of their Living Faith series. The participants came from all across the borough to attend the evening, which was titled 'Equipping young people to build healthy relationships in a sexualised world.' Key areas of discussion were pornography, its impact on relationships, and the need for the Church to create safe spaces for these issues to be discussed openly without judgement. As well as receiving teaching from our team, the participants shared their experiences and we were able to support them in thinking about how to deal with different situations they are facing within their ministries.
A key strand that came out of the discussions throughout the evening, was the need for communication and connection between young people and their parents/carers and for the need for churches and organisations such as acet UK to support parents in building these connections and having the tools to facilitate ongoing conversations around relationships and sex. This is something we are already doing through talks in churches and parents evenings in schools and we would like to encourage more churches to partner with us in this mission.
The feedback from the evening was very positive and we look forward to delivering further sessions in partnership with the Diocese of Southwark.
