Championing healthy relationships

and sexual wellbeing

Resources

One of things that our members have most appreciated about being part of the Esteem network is access to our resources. We are continually working on the development of new resources, gathering input from young people throughout the development process and piloting the resources before distributing amongst our network.

Our standard Esteem resources are available free to members of our Esteem network. If you are interested in attending an Esteem training course and becoming a member, please contact us.

We also have a number of resources that are available for anyone to purchase and some that are free for anyone to download.

Esteem Manual: 6 HIV Collection

AIDS ribbon

This collection (including two example lesson plans) has been designed to help young understand the difference between HIV and AIDS, how it is transmitted and how it can be prevented. It is important to get across the message that anyone can get HIV if they are engaging in risky behaviour – it is not restricted to certain communities or people. In this country, HIV is now described as a chronic manageable disease. There is still no cure but advances in medicine mean that a person living with HIV will not necessarily go on to develop AIDS. This medication is not consistently available in all parts of the world however and HIV continues to be a very serious issue. Emphasise that people living with HIV need support, encouragement and care and should not be stigmatised.
