Esteem

We have just completed our 4 day training in Crawley with a group of fantastic youth workers, who are working with young people in a variety of contexts from delivering lessons and assemblies, to small group work and pastoral care. The training has equipped them to have conversations and be able to run inspiring sessions on self-esteem, relationships, porn, sexting, pregnancy and contraception, STIs, HIV and much more with the young people they work with.

In a society where girls are constantly bombarded by sexualised images, and are increasingly led by media and social influences, it can be difficult for young women to navigate the mixed messages that fuel unrealistic or unhealthy expectations and pressures around relationships and sex.

Donations have enabled us to launch a relationships and sex education project, working with young people who are residents of a secure mental health ward.

We are looking for youth workers, who share our passion for equipping young people with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed and wise decisions about relationships and sex. If you are up for the challenge, read more about our vacancies here.

This year our acet UK Esteem conference took place in two venues – in London, on September 13th, and Leicester, on the 16th.

Both conferences had the same timetable of excellent RSE content from leaders in the field. Bethany McDonald, from The Naked Truth, shared her experiences and about her work around porn addiction and female porn use. We were also pleased to have Rachael Duthie speak about sexual health at the front line of care.

Today we have been filming with Bethany MacDonald, from the Naked Truth, to create a new resource. The final resource will be made available to our Esteem network of relationships and sex educators, to use with young people to help them discuss and analyse the potential effects of pornography.

Bethany will also be sharing her experiences, and about her work around porn addiction and female porn use, at our Esteem conferences next week.
