The Power of Simple Conversations - National Simplicity Day

The Power of Simple Conversations

National Simplicity Day – 12 July

It’s National Simplicity Day, and it feels a little ironic that sometimes things feel anything but simple!

It’s easy to overcomplicate things—chasing the new and shiny, hopping from one idea to the next, or wanting to do all the things at once. But often, the most value comes from the simple things.

I think this is especially true for young people. In a world filled with noise—scrolling, swiping, likes, viral trends, and TikToks—there’s a lot going on.

So, I wanted to talk about one of the most simple but powerful tools we have for cutting through the noise: conversation.

Sometimes, simple conversations can have big impacts.

Young people are constantly bombarded with mixed messages about relationships, sex, identity, and self-worth. But when someone takes the time to talk to them honestly, clearly, and without judgment—it can cut through some of that noise.

Keeping it simple doesn’t mean keeping it shallow. It means being approachable, relatable, and real.

Of course, it’s not always easy to feel confident having those conversations—and that’s often where things get overcomplicated.

If you work with young people—whether that’s delivering RSE, or as a youth worker, acet UK can help. Our training builds knowledge and confidence to navigate tricky topics, answer unexpected questions, and keep it all clear and grounded.

Let’s not underestimate the power of keeping things simple.
