Work-life balance can look different for each of us. Sometimes it means making time for family or friends or carving out space to rest; sometimes it means drawing boundaries at work; and sometimes it’s simply recognising when you’ve reached your limit.
At acet UK, we know this is especially important for people in caring and education roles, where the pull to keep giving can be strong.
This week is National Work Life Week, which gives us a reminder to think about how we can work and live in a way that protects both our wellbeing and the work we care about.
What balance looks like at acet UK
Finding a good balance isn’t just about individual habits, it’s also about how organisations create space for their people to thrive. Some examples of how acet UK does this include:
- Mental Health Days - every team member can take time off when they need to pause, reset or protect their wellbeing.
- Flexible & Agile Working - life doesn’t always fit into a 9–5 schedule. Team members are able to adapt their hours and locations to work in a way that fits both themselves and the charity.
A 7-Day balance challenge
To mark National Work Life Week, we’re inviting you to join us in a simple challenge. Each day this week, why not try one small thing for balance:
- Day 1: Step away from screens for an evening and notice what space it creates.
- Day 2: Take a short walk, even if it’s just around the block.
- Day 3: Draw a boundary - finish work on time or switch off emails after dinner.
- Day 4: Do something joyful, just for you.
- Day 5: Reach out to someone you value.
- Day 6: Write down three things you’re grateful for before bed.
- Day 7: Rest and reflect on what helped you feel more balanced.
